Junior Achievement of Greater Baton Rouge receives a $25,000 grant from Unum Group to boost teens personal finance and workforce skills in honor of their 175th anniversary

Baton Rouge, LA. 4/8/24 – Earlier this year, Junior Achievement of Greater Baton Rouge, a local education nonprofit focused on helping young people build real world skills for economic success, received a $25,000 commemorative grant from Unum Group, a leader in corporate benefits and services, as part of Unum Group’s 175th anniversary.
These funds will enable teens to engage directly with experienced business professionals in a series of workshop-style career mentoring events in industries including finance and business. These interactive workshops will offer practical advice, industry insights, and networking opportunities to help students make informed decisions about their future. In addition to financial support, Unum Group associates also volunteer with Junior Achievement throughout the school year. Through this engagement, employees are able to experience, firsthand, the significant impact that JA programs have on boosting young people’s confidence and equipping them with the tools necessary for creating economic success in their lives.
“We are thrilled to celebrate our 175th anniversary by investing in the next generation and providing them with opportunities to connect with our colleagues and explore various career paths," said Cary Olson Cartwright, AVP, Corp Social Responsibility, Unum Group. "Our partnership with Junior Achievement reinforces our commitment to empowering young individuals and fostering economic success within our communities."
Unum Group’s dedication to supporting teen career development and longtime support of Junior Achievement underscores and aligns with our joint broader missions to boost educational outcomes through mentoring and meaningful community partnerships to help shape tomorrow’s leaders.
“We are grateful for Unum Group’s vision for empowering young people with life skills through Junior Achievement. With this generous gift, young people will be better prepared for adulthood and can develop a path to economic mobility. Junior Achievement mentors serve as a mirror of what is possible, and students appreciate learning about professional work environments and personal finance,” said Paula Dawson, President of Junior Achievement of Greater Baton Rouge. “Junior Achievement’s purpose is to empower young people with the skillsets and mindsets for economic success, and partners like Unum Group help students feel more confident in their financial and career decision-making.”
